4th District Call to Action event brings hundreds to 79th & East End

Alderman Michelle A. Harris and the 4th District hosted a Call to Action Community Resource & Family Engagement Event on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 1700 E. 79th Street in Chicago during the 79th Street closure between Stony Island Avenue and Creiger Avenue.

The event connected residents with valuable community resources, including youth programs, mental health services, public safety information, health and wellness resources, and city services, while also featuring entertainment, food trucks, mobile medical resources, aviation displays, and family-friendly activities.

Residents were encouraged to attend with their families, learn about available services, and receive guidance on detours and transportation impacts related to the street closure.

Imani Village Senior Residences Grand Opening

Today was an incredible day! I had the pleasure of cutting the ribbon and welcoming new residents to the newly completed Imani Village Senior Residence in the 8th Ward with Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, members of the Trinity United Church of Christ community, Mayor Brandon Johnson, Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Lissette Castañeda, neighborhood leaders, and Pullman residents.
This amazing City-backed project has added 70 new affordable 1 & 2 Bedroom Apartments to the Pullman area, offering independent living opportunities specifically designed for seniors. And this is just the beginning – the project is part of the larger Imani Village development that is transforming the surrounding area.
