8TH WARD BACK-TO-SCHOOL JAMBOREE

Celebrating Our Students.   Supporting Our Families.

Strengthening Our Community.

The 8th Ward was filled with excitement, smiles, and community spirit as Alderman Michelle A. Harris, together with Sen. Elgie Sims, Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore, and State Rep. Elect Cleopatra Cowley, welcomed families to the annual Back-to-School Jamboree at Jesse Owens Park.  It was an incredible day dedicated to celebrating education and making sure our young people were prepared, encouraged, and excited to begin another successful school year.

As the photos show, the community came out in a BIG way!

Students received FREE school supplies and book bags, while families enjoyed food, music, games, a video gaming truck, haircuts and hairdos, and plenty of activities and entertainment throughout the day.

THREE TRUCKLOADS OF FRESH PRODUCE!

This year’s celebration was even bigger with the addition of a FREE Farmers Market that provided an incredible three truckloads of fresh produce to families and everyone attending the event.

The Farmers Market added another important dimension to the Back-to-School Jamboree—supporting not only our students, but also the health and well-being of the entire family. Attendees were able to take home fresh produce at no cost, helping extend the impact of the celebration beyond Jesse Owens Park and into households throughout our community.

COMMUNITY IN ACTION

The smiles, laughter, packed book bags, fresh produce, and memorable moments captured in these photos tell the story of what can happen when elected officials, community partners, volunteers, residents, and families work together.

Alderman Harris extends a heartfelt THANK YOU to every community partner, sponsor, volunteer, vendor, parent, student, and resident who helped make this year’s Back-to-School Jamboree such a tremendous success.

Together, we celebrated our children, supported our families, promoted healthier communities, and demonstrated once again the power of neighbors working together.

Here’s to an outstanding school year for all of our students, teachers, administrators, parents, and families!
