Christmas in the Wards provides thousands of Chicago area children with a Holiday Joy!

The event distributed more than 10,000 toys. The giveaway also included winter coats, bicycles, flat screen televisions, and other electronics. Larry Huggins of Riteway Construction is the founder and has acted as resident Santa for the past 29 years!

The giveaway brought together elected leaders from all 50 Wards for ‘Santa’s Workshop.’ Everyone was under one roof for the same cause.

Imani Village Senior Residences Grand Opening

Today was an incredible day! I had the pleasure of cutting the ribbon and welcoming new residents to the newly completed Imani Village Senior Residence in the 8th Ward with Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III, members of the Trinity United Church of Christ community, Mayor Brandon Johnson, Department of Housing (DOH) Commissioner Lissette Castañeda, neighborhood leaders, and Pullman residents.
This amazing City-backed project has added 70 new affordable 1 & 2 Bedroom Apartments to the Pullman area, offering independent living opportunities specifically designed for seniors. And this is just the beginning – the project is part of the larger Imani Village development that is transforming the surrounding area.

About Michelle A. Harris

Alderman Harris has lived in the 8th Ward for over fifty years and has been a member of the 8th Ward Regular Democratic Organization for over forty years. She is a graduate of Bryn Mawr Elementary School, Chicago Vocational High School and Chicago State University. Alderman Harris is also a life member of Christ Temple Cathedral Church.

Alderman Harris has a distinguished history of public service in the Chicagoland area. She served as the Secretary to the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, Chief of Staff to former Alderman Lorraine Dixon and Superintendent of the 8th Ward – Department of Streets and Sanitation.
Alderman Harris was appointed Alderman of the 8th Ward on December 13, 2006, and elected in 2007. She was re-elected in 2011, 2015 and 2019.
