4th District Call to Action event brings hundreds to 79th & East End
Alderman Michelle A. Harris and the 4th District hosted a Call to Action Community Resource & Family Engagement Event on Thursday, June 11, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at 1700 E. 79th Street in Chicago during the 79th Street closure between Stony Island Avenue and Creiger Avenue.
The event connected residents with valuable community resources, including youth programs, mental health services, public safety information, health and wellness resources, and city services, while also featuring entertainment, food trucks, mobile medical resources, aviation displays, and family-friendly activities.
Residents were encouraged to attend with their families, learn about available services, and receive guidance on detours and transportation impacts related to the street closure.

About Michelle A. Harris
Alderman Harris has lived in the 8th Ward for over fifty years and has been a member of the 8th Ward Regular Democratic Organization for over forty years. She is a graduate of Bryn Mawr Elementary School, Chicago Vocational High School and Chicago State University. Alderman Harris is also a life member of Christ Temple Cathedral Church.
Alderman Harris has a distinguished history of public service in the Chicagoland area. She served as the Secretary to the Board of Commissioners of Cook County, Chief of Staff to former Alderman Lorraine Dixon and Superintendent of the 8th Ward – Department of Streets and Sanitation.
Alderman Harris was appointed Alderman of the 8th Ward on December 13, 2006, and elected in 2007. She was re-elected in 2011, 2015 and 2019.
